JUBILARIANS

We are grateful to these Sisters for their years of joyful and loving service to those around them. The formal celebration will take place in September with a Mass shared with family, friends, our Associates, and all the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine.

“Our whole business therefore in this life is to restore to health the eye of the heart whereby God may be seen.”

Sr. Joan Gallagher: 75 Years

As a retired Sister of Charity, I continue to find ways to remain connected to our ministry, our Sisters, and to the people that we serve. I have previously served on the board of St. Vincent Charity Community Health Center, volunteered at the Collinwood Neighborhood Catholic, was an active member of St. Luke Parish, and held positions in CSA Leadership. When a specific need arises, if I can, I will say yes to the opportunity to help. Our ministry is focused on people, and supporting others who need just a little push is most important for me.

For many years, I served at Providence Hospital, South Carolina in many capacities—including as the hospital’s administrator. Upon my arrival at Mt. Augustine/Regina Health Center, I looked forward to the different ministries I could become involved in. Currently, my number one ministry is prayer. I pray for my CSA community, Sisters, Associates, family, RHC residents, and for special needs in both the United States and throughout the world. I love meeting residents and their families while I walk the hallways of RHC with a smile and a wink. I hope to continue my volunteer ministries wherever my CSA community calls, and help in any way I am able to serve.

Sr. Marian Durkin: 70 Years

Since leaving my role on the leadership Council of CSA, I have been involved in a number of volunteer activities. Once or twice month I participate in a prayer group at Edna House, a house for women in recovery. This is a program of the Ignatian Spirituality Program. I co-facilitate an annual retreat for the LGBTQ+ community and in 2024 we celebrated our 25th Anniversary. In the area of Social Justice, I initiated a JPIC (Justice, Peace and the Integration of Creation) group consisting of sisters from 6 different communities and a lay woman. We have been meeting for over 15 years and are engaged in prayer, education, and action around a variety of social justice issues. I'm also on the Social Action Ministry of my parish, The Cathedral of St. John. We serve the Cosgrove Center by collecting funds and personal items. Once a year we sponsor a special dinner at the Center at which decorate, serve the meals, and provide hospitality. I stay active in my opposition of the death penalty and my support of the trans community.   I volunteer on a number of boards and am grateful to have been able to serve on the board of Lakewood Catholic Academy for 20 years. These volunteer ministries have been very life-giving for me. I am very grateful.

Sr. Evelyn Flowers: 70 Years

As CSA’s volunteer Coordinator of Ecological Concern, I endeavor to keep the care of God’s earth in our consciousness by writing for our community publications, overseeing recycling at Mt. Augustine/Regina Health Center, and encouraging earth care, especially among our employees. My ministry in music has been an outgrowth of my youthful interest and training, and continued in CSA when I was “called” by Sr. Marie Cecile to sit at an organ for the first time and learn to play foot pedals. Now I share my knowledge and love for God’s gift of music In a music appreciation gathering for Regina Health Center residents. To me, it is both a ministry in beauty and a ministry in prayer. Additionally, I volunteer on the community’s Gift and Donation Committee, because it enables the CSA Sisters to personally respond to those in need.
