Sister Mary Grace Betzler CSA, died on Friday, January 6, 2023 in Richfield, Ohio at Mount Augustine/Regina Health Center. She was born on August 11, 1946 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Richard and Ella Betzler. One of five children, she was baptized on September 6, 1946 at St. Canice Church in Pittsburgh. On February 11, 1967 she entered the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine. She pronounced final vows on October 16, 1969. She is survived by her brother Daniel Betzler in Solon, Ohio. Her parents, two brothers and twin sister proceeded her in death.
Sister Mary Grace received an Associate Degree in Occupational Therapy from Cuyahoga Community College in 1973, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy with a minor in Psychology from Eastern Michigan University in 1983 and Certification as Catholic Chaplain from the National Association of Catholic Chaplains in 1992.
From 1969 to 1986 Sister worked in the Occupational Therapy Departments of Mount Augustine in Richfield, St. Vincent Charity Hospital, Parmadale, St. John Hospital, and Timken Mercy Medical Center. In 1988, she became part-time driver at Mount Augustine and Health Benefits Assistant. In November of that year she was named Intake Specialist at Rosary Hall (Charity Hospital) and Woodruff Pavilion. From April, 1989 to May, 1991 she was Patient Visitor at St. Vincent Charity Hospital. Sister was in Pastoral Care and Local Leader at St. Vincent Charity Hospital. She was on Sabbatical at Berakah in Pittsfield, New Hampshire in 2000. When she returned home she was a volunteer in the Archives Department at Mount Augustine, and at Edwin Shaw Hospital in Akron, as well as St. John Westshore in Westlake. From 2006 to 2014 Sister was part-time Coordinator of Program and Transportation at Mount Augustine/Regina Health Center.
Sr. Mary Grace consistently demonstrated her steadfast love and care for her brother Danny throughout these years. She was committed to wholistic healing, as evidenced in her ministries and in the practice of Reiki. She loved God faithfully and was joyful to be a Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine.
